DISCOVER: SHIRAZ! WINE TASTING
October 30 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm£20.00
Join us at Loki for a one hour whistle-stop tasting of the famous Shiraz/Syrah grape. This internationally renown grape produces many of the world’s greatest red wines including Hermitage and Penfolds Grange. We will taste four examples of Shiraz produced in Chile, South Africa, Australia and France.
This is a new format of tasting for 2020 and is a perfect bite-sized introduction to our Saturday wine tastings.
Shiraz shares some similarity with the better-known Cabernet Sauvignon grape, but tends to produce wines with peppery spice characters and bramble fruit notes notes rather than blackcurrant. The grape is known as Syrah in France and Shiraz in many of the New World countries. It is capable of producing a huge range of styles.
In addition to making single varietal Shiraz wines, the grape is also an important component of famous blended wines such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape in France and the Grenache/Shiraz/Mataro (GSM) blends produced in Australia. Shiraz wines also some of the most versatile matches to accompany food, for dishes like Steak Au Poivre.
We thought it the perfect time to showcase some of our favourite grape varieties, especially since other red grapes such as Malbec have become household names in the UK.
