We are joined by Eleanor Leger the owner of Eden Cider in Vermont USA for a tasting of some of the most interesting ciders in the world.
Located in the north of Vermont, USA, close to the Canadian border, Eden’s innovative range reflects the apple heritage of Northern New England. Made just once a year by gently pressing traditional New England heirloom varieties, local seedling varieties, and Old World varieties, including bittersweet cider varieties, whose origins are found in France and England.
Eleanor is a pioneer: immediate past president of the American Cider Association, all Eden products are made only from 100% freshly-pressed juice and never use sugar, colourings, acids or industrial flavourings – these are wines by any other name, but sourced from carefully tended orchards, not vineyards.
These Orchard Wines contain, on average, half the alcohol of grape wines as well as being gluten-free and vegan-friendly. Sparkling and still, they run from the driest of dry to the sweetest of sweet. They also pair wonderfully well with food and are capable of broadening horizons with great matches for both traditional European dishes as well as the, often more powerful and aromatic, flavours of South East Asia where grape wines can often struggle.
Eden makes wonderfully diverse styles from dry sparkling styles, through to super sweet natural ice ciders. We will try the range here and explore what makes these products so delicious.
