We welcome James Gerrans from Hundred Hills for a tasting of their wines, which Jancis Robinson, the famous wine critic, regards as some of the finest in the UK. Hundred Hills are unique in the new wave of English producers, as they are focused solely on improving the quality of their wines, not doing what many other English producers are doing, which is expanding their production by purchasing grapes. They are situated in a unique terroir in Oxfordshire, which has a limiting factor of there being no other plots in the UK which give them this profile of the wine. For us this is a good thing as at Loki we constantly strive for the unique.
They produce 50,000 bottles a year, and that is their limit, so they are very selective about where their wine is stocked. It is mainly served in some of the best Michelin-starred restaurants in the UK. However, we are fortunate to be one of their few retail partners in the UK.
About Hundred Hills
Hundred Hills was founded by Stephen Duckett and his with Sophie, to be a single estate terroir driven English Sparkling wine producer. The journey all started with a career in computing, and after great success Stephen longed to return to the farming background of his Father. One evening over a bottle of Nyetimber the spark was formed and Stephen meticulously scored the UK for a unique piece of land. Unusually finding themselves in North Oxfordshire rather than the south coast of England.
This is where Hundred Hills was conceived, in an amphitheatre which creased a unique microclimate for them to be able to produce completely unique English Sparkling wine.
Sine then they have won multiple accolades, including Best English Sparkling for their Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs.
