The WSET Level 2 course is perfect for anyone who has a genuine interest in wine and wants to expand their knowledge of different wine styles, grape varieties, and wine regions. It’s also a great option for those who work in the wine or hospitality industry and want to enhance their career opportunities.
The course provides a more detailed understanding of wine production and the key factors that affect wine quality. If you want to learn more about wine in a structured and comprehensive way – that’s the course for you. You will learn how to read (and interpret!) wine labels, how to choose the best wines based on geography and grapes and will be able to taste, describe, compare and discuss a wide range of popular grape varieties.
About the course:
- Duration & dates: 3 consecutive Mondays: 2nd, 9th and 16th of September 10:00am-5:00pm.
- Group: Limited to a maximum of 12 students.
- Tasting: You will sample over 30 premium wines including Champagne and port as a part of the course.
- Wine educator: This course will be led by Radu Vasile – our Edgbaston store’s manager. Radu’s worked at Loki for over three years now following a career in the hospitality industry and has a real passion for wine, backed up by some serious expertise. He loves to continuously improve himself and having completed the Level 4 Diploma in Wines in 2022, Radu is now pursuing his dream and currently intensively studying to on the Master of Wine programme. With a Wine Educator certificate now under his belt, where he received amazing feedback from the panel, Radu is eager to pass his knowledge on to anyone who will listen!
- Exam: 50 multiple-choice questions test to be completed at the end of the last day.
- Qualification: Fully accredited and internationally recognised WSET Level 2 Wine Award Qualification certificate and lapel pin are granted to students with a score of 55% or higher.
- Preparation: You don’t need any previous qualifications to enrol. If you’re brand new to the wine scene, you might want to consider taking the Level 1 Award in Wines first, but it’s not a requirement. Contact us for advice, if you are not sure which course you should go on. It is recommended to pick up your textbook prior to the course and dedicate a recommended minimum of 11 hours to reading it.
- Price: £450 per person (inclusive of VAT), or £465 (inclusive of VAT) with course material delivery.
WSET Level 2 Course Synopsis:
- Wine Tasting: This encompasses the main bulk of the course as it’s the most fun! We’ll learn to taste wine using the Level 2 WSET® Systematic Approach to Tasting. Grape varieties: We’ll learn about the individual characteristics of wines made from the main grape varieties
- The red grapes covered are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah/Shiraz, Valpolicella, Gamay, Zinfandel, Grenache, Malbec, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, Pinotage, Primitivo, Sangiovese and Montepulciano, Aglianico, and Barbera.
- The White grapes covered are: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Semillon, Torrontés, Muscadet, Viognier, Albariño, Cortese and Chenin Blanc and Trebbiano.
- The Key wine producing regions of the world: We will cover the key styles of wine production in the following countries: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, USA, Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
- Wines Tasted: We will taste over 40 premium wines including Champagne and Port. Sample bottles are sourced from the extensive Loki Wine list.
- Wine Labels: What we can learn about a wine from its label.
- Social Responsibility: Basic guide to the units of alcohol in a bottle of wine and sensible drinking guidelines.
- Wine Service and Storage: Learn the correct way to store and serve wines and identify the common faults found in wine.
- Study materials: Students can collect the WSET Level 2 study guide prior to the course start date, alternatively you can choose the guide to be sent to your home address for an additional £15 fee (which will include the delivery of the certificate upon completion). Please see the tickets below.
- Certificate: Upon successful completion of the course, you will be emailed by our wine educator who will let you know when the certificate is ready for collection, or if you’ve chosen delivery we’ll notify you when it’s on its way.

T&Cs:
If booking within 60 days of the course you must pay the full cost when you book. We must receive the full cost of your course (less any deposits already paid) no later than 60 days before the start date. If you make a late booking within 60 days of the course the full amount must be paid immediately. If for any reason the full cost of your course is not received by us within 60 days of the course start date, we will be entitled to treat your booking as cancelled by you and your deposit will be kept. Should you wish to cancel your booking we will refund your money less the cost of the course book and any administration cost we have incurred providing we receive written notice at least 30 days before the start date of the course. If we cancel the course a full refund will be made.
