Yarra Yering has earned the support for the founder’s pursuit of beauty and sophistication a long time ago. With the help of winemaker Sarah Crowe, who was nominated Winemaker of the Year by James Halliday in 2017, the winery continues to impress their fans. Sarah ensures that Yarra Yering produces the high-quality wines that helped establish its excellent position as one of the top wineries in the Yarra Valley by focusing on giving specific blocks and varietals the time and care they deserve.
2018 has been an exceptional vintage, producing high-quality, slightly bigger wines than its predesessor. Yarra Rewing Dry Red N1 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The grapes are hand-harvested and hand-processed ensuring that only the best fruit ends up inte bottle. Whilst berries of Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot are fermented as whole, Cabernet grapes are crushed: this gives the wine freshness and fragrance as well as great structure. The juice is then matured separately in French oak (40% new and the rest – old) for 15 months, and blended just before bottling.
The resulting wine is very fruit-forward with aromas of dark berries and herbs, but perfectly balanced with notes of baking spices and oak. All these components alongside with the bright acidity and great tannins provide a strong base for the long future.
Food pairing suggestion: Herb marinated lamb chops.
