Comprising five expressions, this inaugural release is drawn from four single casks, each representing a member of The WMD family. The fifth expression, known as The Matriarch (The Mother Bottling), is a unique blend of all four casks. Each bottle is presented in a striking custom box that pays tribute to the Black Country and Birmingham region.
WMD Single Malt The Matriarch, The Distillery
West Midlands Distillery is a family-owned craft distillery based in Birmingham, known for its hands-on approach and small-batch production. Since launching in 2017, the team has been driven by a passion for creating spirits with real character, laying down their first whisky casks in 2021. Their single malt whisky celebrates the West Midlands’ industrial roots and creative spirit, with each release named to honour the people and values that built the distillery. “The Matriarch” is a tribute to the strength, care, and leadership of the women in their family – and a nod to the timeless role of matriarchs in every community.
WMD Single Malt The Matriarch, Production Method
The Matriarch is made from carefully selected British barley, fermented slowly to build deep fruit character. Like all WMD whiskies, it’s bottled as a single cask release, meaning each batch reflects the character of that individual barrel – no blends, no shortcuts, just honest whisky craftsmanship.
WMD Single Malt The Matriarch, Tasting Notes
