Producer
Domaine Joël Delaunay is a fifth-generation family estate nestled in the village of Pouillé, in the heart of the Loire Valley’s Touraine appellation. With 45 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards, the estate is renowned for its commitment to quality and innovation. Notably, Joël Delaunay was among the first in the region to adopt screwcap closures in 2004, reflecting a forward-thinking approach to winemaking. Today, under the stewardship of Thierry Delaunay, the domaine continues to produce expressive, terroir-driven wines that capture the essence of their origin.
Terroir & Winemaking
The Gamay vines thrive on the estate’s diverse soils, particularly the “perruches” (clay with flint) and “bournais” (clay-limestone) soils, which impart distinctive mineral and spicy notes to the wines. The region’s temperate oceanic climate, influenced by the nearby Cher River, provides ideal conditions for cultivating Gamay, allowing for a balance of ripeness and acidity.
In the cellar, the grapes undergo semi-carbonic maceration—a technique that enhances the fruit-forward character and softens tannins. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the wine’s freshness and purity. The result is a vibrant, approachable red that showcases the varietal’s charm and the terroir’s influence.

On the palate, it is light-bodied and supple, with soft tannins and a juicy core of red fruit flavours. A hint of spice and minerality adds complexity, leading to a refreshing finish.
