Boekenhoutskloof Goldmine White, Producer
Boekenhoutskloof has long been regarded as one of South Africa’s most respected wineries, known for its ability to craft wines of both precision and personality. Founded in 1776 in the Franschhoek Valley, the estate has built its reputation on thoughtful blends and site-driven wines. With Goldmine White 2024, the team extends its vision beyond a single vineyard, drawing fruit from across the Western Cape to create a cuvée that reflects the richness and diversity of the region. This is Boekenhoutskloof’s first release of Goldmine, and it is already drawing critical acclaim.
Boekenhoutskloof Goldmine White, Terroir and Winemaking
Goldmine 2024 is a pan-regional expression, shaped by fruit from five distinctive Cape farms. Swartland Chenin Blanc, which forms the backbone of the blend, brings texture and weight, while oak-aged Semillon adds structure and the promise of longevity. Chardonnay from the cool South Coast provides freshness and precision, and a delicate touch of Viognier contributes aromatic lift. The wine was matured in a combination of seasoned French oak foudres, concrete eggs, clay amphora, and, only in the case of Chardonnay, new French barriques. Depending on vineyard and variety, the components spent 12 to 14 months in élevage before blending, ensuring both harmony and depth.
Boekenhoutskloof Goldmine White, Tasting Notes
On the nose, Goldmine is immediately inviting, with aromas of quince, poached pear, nectarine, and subtle hints of baking spice. The palate mirrors this generosity with juicy stone fruit and vibrant citrus, balanced by lively acidity. Layers of ginger, cinnamon, and a gentle saline edge give it both complexity and freshness. The finish is long and mineral-driven, leaving impressions of lime zest, white peach, and orange marmalade. It is elegant, textured, and crafted with great attention to detail.
An Interesting Fact
Unlike most wines in the Boekenhoutskloof range, Goldmine does not represent a single site but rather unites vineyards from across the Cape. It is a deliberate exploration of diversity, showing how distant parcels can combine to create something harmonious, layered, and unique.
