The Great Wine Regions Series – Part 3: Central Italy
January 31 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
£60.00

This is the third off The Great Wine Regions Series with our next destination: Central Italy!
This is a third of a 12-part series of masterclasses designed for wine lovers who want a deeper, more structured understanding of the world’s great regions, without the commitment of a formal WSET course. Maybe you don’t want to study all wine regions, but you’d love to dive into a few in more depth. That’s exactly what this series is for!
From the rolling hills of Chianti Classico to the sun-drenched coast of Bolgheri and the mystical landscapes of Umbria, Central Italy is a region where history, elegance, and terroir come together in unforgettable ways. This masterclass uncovers the heartland of Italy’s most iconic red and white wines, revealing why these regions continue to set benchmarks of quality for the world.
Led by Radu Vasile, our in-house wine educator, this session explores the unique character and complexity that define Central Italy’s finest appellations. Expect clarity, insight, and plenty of “aha” moments as we dive into the diversity of Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Bolgheri, Orvieto, and Umbria.
About the Masterclass
Join us as we explore the iconic regions of Central Italy.
This structured three-hour tasting blends expert teaching, lively discussion, and comparative analysis across Central Italy’s most important styles. You’ll explore how soil, altitude, grape variety, and climate influence the wines, while gaining a deeper understanding of Sangiovese in its most prestigious forms, from Chianti Classico to the powerful, age-worthy expressions of Brunello and Vino Nobile.
With Radu’s guidance, you’ll sharpen your analytical tasting skills, learning how to identify aromatic structure, tannin grain, acidity, and regional signatures.
What to Expect
- Taste 8 wines spanning Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Bolgheri, Orvieto, and Umbria
- Understand how soil types (galestro, alberese, marine influences, volcanic soils) shape flavour and structure
- Compare traditional vs modern expressions of Sangiovese and discover how Bolgheri created a new identity with its Bordeaux-inspired blends
- Develop tasting techniques focusing on aromatics, acidity, tannins, and balance
- End with a fun, informal quiz – the winner takes home a bottle of wine!
