CHEESE AND WINE VOLUME 3 - KNO - 20/09/2025
£ 45.00

Join us at Loki Knowle for our most popular event — Cheese and Wine Tasting! Discover new, intriguing pairings alongside classic duos in a fun and educational Saturday afternoon experience. Loki’s experts will guide you through seven carefully selected wines from their extensive collection, each thoughtfully paired with artisan cheeses from our favourite suppliers.

The wines featured in our tasting are exclusively chosen from Loki’s extensive and thoughtfully curated collection. Our team goes the extra mile — traveling near and far — to ensure only the finest bottles make it to our shelves, guaranteeing our customers an experience that’s both exceptional in quality and value.

At this event, we’ll be presenting seven distinctive wines, each meticulously selected to enhance the flavours of seven artisan cheeses. Over the course of two hours, your taste buds will be treated to a series of expertly paired wines and cheeses sourced from our most trusted suppliers. Led by our knowledgeable host, the tasting will explore the art of pairing, revealing why certain cheeses and wines create a perfect match, while debunking the myth that a single bottle of Port is all you need for a true cheese and wine experience.

See example of the wines and cheese pairings we tried during one of our previous events:

Greywacke ‘Wild’ Sauvignon Blanc with Wyngaard: this goats cheese was far more firm in texture than most of the guests would have tried, but also more savoury, goes beautifully with this Sauvignon which is wild fermented and tastes more nuanced and complex than a ‘standard’ NZ Sauv Blanc.

Flor de Vetus Verdejo with Mimolette Affiné: the cheese is French and was created so that the French could buy a French product that mirrored the popular Dutch Gouda’s of the time. The pairing works by accentuating the passion fruit notes in the wine – A Verdejo from Spain, essentially created to be a wine that would appeal to consumers of NZSB.

Charles Heidsieck Brut NV Champagne with 36 Month Matured Parmigiano: this is one of the most fun pairings we do as so few guests have considered Parmigiano as a straight eating cheese rather than a grating cheese for pasta. The pairing works as a umami match as the Champagne has Autolytic notes from the lengthy lees ageing and the cheese has the savoury umami notes.

Palladino Biferno Rosso with Berkswell: this pairing is what we term a ‘Flavour Turbo’ – the saltiness of the mature (and quite dry textured) Berkswell cheese, works to amplify or Turbo your perception of fruit in the wine.

Reyneke Syrah with Smoked Gubbeen: this pairing focuses on one specific flavour found in both the wine and the cheese, which is a little less common and often pairings work with contrasts.

Libamus Mencia Dulce (Fortified) with Manchego Viejo: the cheese has a subtle nuttiness which works really well with the fortified red we are showing.

Tahbilk Cane-cut Marsanne with Valdeon: the cheese is about as blue as blue cheeses get – more blue than white sometimes if left to mature long enough. It’s very tangy and salty, which increases the fruit expression of apricot and honey in the wine, but also provides a night counterpoint of salty to sweet.

Enjoy a gourmet afternoon that’s all about delighting the senses and expanding your taste horizons!
