The Great Wine Regions Series – Part 5: Burgundy, France
March 21 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
£60.00

Part Five of our 12-part masterclass: The Great Wine Regions Series
Burgundy is one of the world’s most famous (and most misunderstood) wine regions. A place where small changes in slope, soil, and exposure can create big differences in style, quality, and price. From the razor-sharp whites of Chablis to the silky, layered Pinot Noir of the Cote d’Or, this masterclass is designed to make Burgundy clearer, not more complicated.
Led by Radu Vasile, our in-house wine educator, this session breaks down Burgundy in a structured, approachable way. Expect clear explanations, practical tasting comparisons, and plenty of “aha” moments as we explore why this region became the global benchmark for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
About the Masterclass
This structured three-hour session combines engaging teaching, lively discussion, and guided tasting. You’ll learn how Burgundy’s vineyard hierarchy works (regional, village, Premier Cru, Grand Cru), how limestone and marl shape flavour and texture, and why producer choices matter as much as place.
With Radu’s guidance, you’ll also sharpen your tasting technique, learning how to spot classic Burgundy markers: precision, acidity, texture, oak influence, and the subtle differences between key villages and sub-regions.
What to Expect
- Taste 8 wines spanning key Burgundy sub-regions (including styles from Chablis, the Cote de Nuits, the Cote de Beaune, and beyond)
- Understand Burgundy’s label language and quality pyramid (regional to Grand Cru)
- Compare Pinot Noir vs Chardonnay expressions and how site changes structure, aroma, and texture
- Learn how oak, lees ageing, and winemaking choices shape modern Burgundy styles
- Explore why vintage variation matters so much in a cool continental climate
- Develop tasting skills focusing on acidity, texture, oak integration, and aromatic detail
- End with a fun, informal quiz – the winner takes home a bottle of wine!
