Owned by the Ostolaza family, Bodega Agerre spans 15 hectares of vineyards situated on hillsides overlooking the medieval fishing village of Getaria and the Bay of Biscay, just a few miles from San Sebastián. Emilio Agerre, the third generation of the family, continues the tradition of producing Txakoli from the Hondarrabi Zuri grape variety.
The bodega’s vines, aged between 20 and 30 years, are planted in east-facing vineyards to maximise sun exposure while being shielded from westerly winds. The proximity to the Atlantic results in a humid, mild, and wet climate. Consequently, the vines are trained to grow nearly two meters high to ensure optimal ventilation, while the steep slopes and sandy, organic-rich soils provide excellent drainage.
Bodega Agerre’s Txakoli is crafted entirely from 100% Hondarrabi Zuri grapes, fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. This naturally low-alcohol, dry wine features classic flavours of green apple and fresh lemon, accompanied by a lively, sea-salty spritz.
Food pairing suggestion: Aperitif, sushi.
