Maison Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Chardonnay, Producer
Maison Roche de Bellene is the négociant project of Nicolas Potel, one of Burgundy’s most respected, dynamic and quality-driven winemakers. After growing up in Volnay and training in some of the region’s most iconic domaines, Potel founded Roche de Bellene to showcase authentic, terroir-expressive Burgundy across a range of villages and vineyard sites. His philosophy is simple: work only with growers who farm old vines, use low-intervention methods, and prioritise finesse over power. Every bottling, from regional Bourgogne to grand cru, follows the same principle of purity, transparency, and respect for place. The Bourgogne Chardonnay is his gateway to the house style — a wine crafted to be honest, precise and unmistakably Burgundian.
Maison Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Chardonnay, Terroir & Winemaking
Fruit is sourced from carefully selected plots across the Côte de Beaune and occasionally the Hautes-Côtes, with an emphasis on limestone-rich soils that give Chardonnay its signature tension and mineral drive. The vines are tended sustainably, often organically, with low yields to encourage concentration. Grapes are hand-harvested, pressed gently, and fermented with native yeasts. Ageing takes place mostly in stainless steel to retain vibrancy, with a small proportion matured in seasoned French oak for subtle roundness and delicate spice. Potel avoids heavy extraction, new oak excess and unnecessary intervention: the focus is always on clarity and equilibrium.
Maison Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Chardonnay, Tasting Notes
This Bourgogne Chardonnay is bright, clean and beautifully defined. Aromas of green apple, pear, lemon zest and white blossom lead into hints of hazelnut and a faint whisper of oak. On the palate, the wine is crisp yet supple, offering citrus energy balanced by gentle creaminess from lees ageing. Expect notes of ripe orchard fruit, flinty minerality and a refreshing saline edge that lingers on the finish. Elegant, pure and refined, classic Burgundy crafted with real intent.
Food Pairing Suggestion
Excellent with roast chicken, seared scallops, creamy pasta, or soft cheeses like brie and chaource.

Nicolas Potel insists on “old vines only” for Maison Roche de Bellene (even for regional wines) a rarity at this price level, and a big reason the wines punch well above their designation.
