Part Eleven of our 12-part masterclass: The Great Wine Regions Series, Oregon, Washington & Canada – Cool Climate Precision and New World Identity

North America is far more than California. Oregon, Washington State, and Canada have emerged as some of the most exciting cool-climate wine regions in the world, producing wines with freshness, precision, and a strong sense of place. From Oregon’s elegant Pinot Noir to Washington’s structured reds and Canada’s world-class Icewine, this masterclass explores how climate, latitude, and innovation shape a completely different side of North American wine.

Led by Radu Vasile, our in-house wine educator, this session offers a clear and structured understanding of these rapidly evolving regions. Expect practical comparisons, engaging discussion, and plenty of “aha” moments as we connect geography, grape variety, and winemaking style to what you taste in the glass.

About the Masterclass

This structured three-hour session combines guided tasting with deep-dive learning into the climates, regions, and wines of Oregon, Washington, and Canada. You’ll explore how Pacific influence, mountain rain shadows, and extreme seasonal variation shape ripeness, acidity, and aromatic expression across these cooler New World regions.

With Radu’s guidance, you’ll sharpen your tasting technique, learning how to assess balance, freshness, oak integration, aromatic purity, and cool-climate structure. To bring the regions to life, we’ll enjoy North American-inspired nibbles alongside the wines.

What to Expect

  • Taste 8 wines spanning Oregon, Washington State, and Canada, including both still and potentially sweet styles
  • Compare Oregon’s elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with Washington’s fuller-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and blends
  • Explore Canada’s cool-climate strengths, including aromatic whites and the fundamentals of Icewine production
  • Understand how latitude, altitude, and Pacific influence shape freshness and ripeness
  • Learn how volcanic soils, rain shadows, and continental climates influence regional identity
  • Discover how these regions balance New World fruit with Old World structure and restraint
  • Develop tasting skills focusing on acidity, texture, aromatic precision, alcohol balance, and sweetness balance
  • Enjoy regional nibbles designed to complement the wines
  • End with a fun, informal quiz – the winner takes home a bottle of wine!
