WMD Single Malt Oloroso ¼ Cask, The Distillery
West Midlands Distillery is a small, family-run distillery based in Birmingham, committed to creating quality spirits with a local touch. Since 2017, they’ve grown from producing gin, vodka, and rum to laying down their first whisky casks in 2021. Using traditional copper pot stills and a hands-on approach, the team crafts whisky in small batches that reflect the rich character of the West Midlands. Their single malts are among the first produced in the region, offering a fresh take on English whisky with a focus on flavour and craftsmanship.
WMD Single Malt Oloroso ¼ Cask, Production Method
This single malt whisky begins with Laureate and Maris Otter barley, traditionally malted and slowly fermented to create a fruity, complex spirit. After double distillation in small copper stills, the whisky is matured in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts. that have been re-coopered into quarter casks. These smaller casks allow for greater contact between the spirit and the seasoned oak, accelerating maturation and deepening flavour. The Oloroso influence brings rich dried and tropical fruit, nutty warmth, and layers of spice – perfectly complementing the distillery’s fruit-forward house style.

Did you know?
Oloroso sherry casks come from Spain’s Jerez region and are prized by whisky makers for their deep, nutty, and fruity influence. Quarter casks speed up that flavour exchange, giving this whisky a big sherry character in a shorter time.
Suggested Pairing: pair this whisky with rich fruitcake, roasted almonds, or dark chocolate truffles. For a simple cocktail, try it in a Sherry Cask Old Fashioned with a dash of orange bitters to highlight its dried fruit and spice notes.
