La Braccesca Santa Pia Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva, The Producer
The Marchesi Antinori name is synonymous with quality and tradition in Italian winemaking, with a heritage stretching back over six centuries. Antinori first bought land on the Tenuta Braccesca estate – between the towns on Montepulciano and Corona in Southern Tuscany. Their presence in Montepulciano, through the Santa Pia estate, reflects their ongoing pursuit of excellence across Tuscany’s most prestigious appellations. The Antinori family’s approach seamlessly marries historical respect with modern viticulture and winemaking techniques, ensuring that each wine expresses its origin with clarity and sophistication.
La Braccesca Santa Pia Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva, Vineyard and Winemaking
Santa Pia is a single, carefully managed vineyard situated in the southeastern part of the Montepulciano area, in Tuscany. The vineyard lies on calcareous soils rich in gravel and red clay, contributing structure and mineral character to the wine. The region experiences a continental climate, with hot, dry summers and cooler nights – conditions ideal for slow, balanced ripening of the Sangiovese grape.
Grapes are hand-harvested and gently vinified. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by an extended maceration to extract colour, tannin, and flavour. The wine is then transferred to 500-litre tonneaux and traditional oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and ageing, lasting approximately 12 months. Following bottling, it rests for a further year before release, ensuring optimal integration and complexity.
