House of Arras Blanc de Blancs, Producer
Founded by acclaimed winemaker Ed Carr, the House of Arras is Australia’s benchmark for world-class sparkling wine. Under Ed’s guidance, House of Arras has become the country’s most celebrated sparkling wine producer, earning over 140 trophies and more than 370 gold medals across both domestic and international wine competitions.
Based in Tasmania, the country’s coolest wine region, Arras is known for producing elegant, age-worthy wines that rival the best from Champagne. With a philosophy rooted in time, terroir, and technique, House of Arras focuses exclusively on méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines – crafted with patience, precision, and a deep respect for place.
House of Arras Blanc de Blancs, Viticulture & Winemaking
Sourced entirely from select high-altitude vineyards in Tasmania, the fruit benefits from a long, cool growing season – ideal for building flavour intensity while retaining crisp natural acidity. The 2016 vintage experienced a mild spring and a steady, temperate summer, resulting in fruit of exceptional balance and purity.
The grapes were handpicked and gently pressed, with only the finest free-run juice selected. Fermentation occurred in stainless steel to preserve brightness, followed by partial malolactic fermentation to soften acidity and add texture. The wine was matured on its lees for over seven years, gaining remarkable depth, creamy mouthfeel, and signature Arras complexity.
House of Arras Blanc de Blancs 2016, Tasting Notes
A 100% Chardonnay expression, this wine is all about crystalline purity and finesse. It opens with a fine, persistent mousse and bright aromas of white peach, lemon zest, citrus blossom, and subtle brioche. The palate is driven by a vibrant mineral line, beautifully balanced with delicate creaminess and a long, refined finish.
Food pairing suggestion: a brilliant match for fresh oysters, pan-seared scallops, or goat cheese crostini, this Blanc de Blancs also shines solo.
