Mezzacorona Castel Firmian Teroldego, Producer
Mezzacorona is a benchmark name in Trentino, northern Italy, and has been shaping the region’s viticultural identity since 1904. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, this grower-cooperative manages vineyards nestled between Lake Garda and the Dolomites. The Castel Firmian range showcases the best of Trentino’s native varieties, and Teroldego – often referred to as the “Prince of Trentino” – is one of its crown jewels. Mezzacorona crafts this wine to highlight the balance of tradition and precision winemaking.
Mezzacorona Castel Firmian Teroldego, Terroir & Winemaking
Teroldego flourishes in the Rotaliano Plain, a small, fertile area where gravelly alluvial soils and Alpine breezes create an ideal environment for this indigenous grape. The region’s unique microclimate enables full phenolic ripeness while preserving freshness. Grapes are harvested at optimum maturity and vinified traditionally, with extended maceration to extract colour and structure. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by several months of maturation in oak barrels to soften tannins and add complexity, while still allowing the fruit to shine.
Mezzacorona Castel Firmian Teroldego,Tasting Notes
This Teroldego offers a deep ruby hue and an inviting nose of black cherry, wild plum, and violets, laced with subtle hints of spice and graphite. On the palate, it’s juicy yet structured, with ripe forest fruit flavours supported by supple tannins and a touch of smoky minerality. There’s a clean line of acidity that carries through to a savoury, slightly earthy finish. It’s a wine that combines rustic charm with polished finesse, making it incredibly versatile at the table.
Food pairing suggestion: Charcoal-roasted aubergine with miso glaze.
