Powerhouse red from the brilliant Orin Swift label. The wine was created by legendary winemaker Dave Phinney who seems to make a success out of everything he touches! The Orin Swift wines all share a common trait of the huge intensity of fruit and very beguiling textures.
If you have enjoyed Napa Cabernet Sauvignon in the past the power and intensity of this wine will be familiar, but the clever move of using a blend of grapes rather than just the very expensive Cabernet Sauvignon grapes means that the wine costs can be more tightly controlled, leading to a great deal of wine for the price.
Orin Swift ‘Machete’ 2021 Vintage:
Inky and opaque, coating the glass completely, the 2021 Machete immediately commands attention. The nose is opulent, layered with blue and black fruits, charred meat, a touch of savoury funk, and deep mineral tones. On the palate, it is richer and denser than anticipated, delivering flavours of black plum, dark stone fruits, and hints of game, all beautifully balanced by candied orange peel and well-judged acidity. True to its Petite Sirah core, firm yet polished tannins frame the wine, leading to a finish of sumptuous texture and powerful intensity.
