Founded in 1881, Pio Cesare is one of Piemonte’s most renowned family estates, producing classic Barolo and Barbaresco alongside a handful of expertly crafted whites. Now in the hands of the fifth generation, the Cesare family continues to champion a meticulous, site-driven approach across their vineyards. ‘L’Altro’ — meaning “the other one” in Italian — refers to their other Chardonnay, crafted as a bright, unoaked alternative to the richer barrel-aged version. It’s Piemonte’s answer to cool-climate white Burgundy: elegant, mineral, and mouth-wateringly fresh.
Sourced from hillside vineyards in the Langhe and Monferrato areas, where the soils are a mix of clay, limestone, and ancient marine sediments. These cooler sites allow Chardonnay to ripen slowly, building aromatic complexity while retaining crisp acidity.
Fermentation takes place predominantly in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve varietal purity. A small percentage of the wine is aged briefly in neutral oak, but without imparting any overt oak character — just enough to add texture and balance. The wine spends several months on fine lees before bottling, ensuring depth and finesse.
Pale straw-yellow with green reflections. The nose is clean and precise, offering aromas of green apple, white peach, citrus blossom, and a subtle almond note. On the palate, it’s sleek and mineral-driven, with flavours of crisp pear, lemon zest, and a hint of stone fruit. The mouthfeel is lightly textured but vibrant, with a saline, refreshing finish that leaves you wanting another sip.
