Ken Forrester’s Fairy Dust is one of the most playful, enchanting expressions of Chenin Blanc in his entire portfolio, a wine that leans into purity, delicacy and effortless charm. It’s crafted from cooler-climate parcels of Chenin, giving it that lifted, almost ethereal freshness that lives up to its name. Think shimmering citrus, fine minerality and a subtle aromatic swirl that feels like it’s dancing out of the glass. It’s a wine made to remind you that Chenin Blanc doesn’t only do power; it can do grace, brightness and magic.
Ken Forrester, The Producer
Ken Forrester — the King of Chenin — has dedicated the last three decades to proving that South Africa can produce world-class Chenin Blanc. From the start, he insisted on lower yields, meticulous vineyard attention, and winemaking that respected the grape rather than manipulated it. The result? A global re-evaluation of South African Chenin. Alongside iconic wines like FMC and Dirty Little Secret, Fairy Dust represents Ken’s lighter touch: a celebration of Chenin’s naturally crisp, vibrant side. It’s still serious wine, but with an unmistakable wink.
About the 2023 Vintage
The 2023 vintage leans into freshness: crisp pear, green apple, Meyer lemon and white peach wrapped in a clean mineral edge. Gentle lees contact adds a soft roundness, while bright acidity keeps everything light on its feet. There’s a powdery texture (true “fairy dust”) and a beautifully dry, saline finish that makes this one of the most refreshing Ken Forrester releases of the year. A wine you can drink now for vitality or age 2–3 years for more honeyed notes.
Food Pairing Suggestion
Think oysters with lemon zest, tempura prawns, or grilled halloumi with pomegranate.
Did you know?
Fairy Dust was inspired by Ken’s fascination with Chenin’s “lighter side”: he wanted a wine that tasted like someone had switched on a light inside the grape.
