Sparklehorse is one of South Africa’s most distinctive bottle-fermented sparkling wines, crafted entirely from Chenin Blanc using the traditional Champagne method. The 2022 release is crisp, elegant and beautifully proportioned, showing lifted orchard fruit, fine bubbles and subtle brioche notes.
Ken Forrester, The Producer
Ken’s idea to make an MCC from old-vine Chenin Blanc was a bold one: unconventional at the time, but now celebrated. By picking early, encouraging high natural acidity and ageing the wine on lees, Sparklehorse has become a standout in the Cap Classique category. It honours the workhorses once used in the vineyards and showcases Chenin’s unexpected talent for sparkling wine.
About the 2022 Vintage
Expect vibrant flavours of green apple, lemon zest, pear and almond pastry, wrapped in delicate mousse. Extended lees ageing adds creaminess without sacrificing freshness. The finish is long, mineral and refined, making this an MCC with both charm and structure.
Food Pairing Suggestion
Perfect with oysters, tempura vegetables or truffle popcorn.
