Garzón is a family-owned, boutique winery located in the Garzón region of Uruguay. The winery is known for its high-quality wines, and sustainable winemaking practices and, in 2018, was awarded New World Winery of the Year.

Founded by Alejandro Bulgheroni and his wife Bettina, they were drawn to the Garzón region for its ideal climate and soil conditions for growing grapes. Thanks to Garzon, Tannat wines are now strongly associated with Uruguay (instead of France where the grape variety originates from). The winery also produces other red and white wines, including Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Albariño, and Sauvignon Blanc.

Bodega Garzon Wine

Garzon wine refers to the wines produced by Bodega Garzon, a renowned winery located in the Garzon region of Uruguay. The winery is situated in the Maldonado department, near the coast of southern Uruguay. Bodega Garzon is recognized for its commitment to quality, sustainable practices, and the production of premium wines.

The Garzon vineyards benefit from a unique terroir that includes a combination of Atlantic Ocean breezes, rolling hills, and diverse soil types. The cool climate and maritime influence contribute to the development of grapes with vibrant acidity, intense flavours, and distinct aromas.

Bodega Garzon focuses on cultivating both traditional and international grape varieties, producing a diverse range of wines. Some of the grape varieties grown on the estate include Tannat, Albariño, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Marselan.

  1. Tannat: Tannat is considered the flagship grape of Uruguay, and Bodega Garzon is particularly recognized for its Tannat wines. The wines produced from this grape are rich, full-bodied, and known for their deep colour, robust tannins, and flavours of dark fruits, chocolate, and spice.
  2. Albariño: Bodega Garzon also produces Albariño, a white grape variety typically associated with Spain’s Galicia region. Their Albariño wines are vibrant and refreshing, with citrus and stone fruit flavours, floral aromas, and crisp, zesty acidity.
  3. Bodega Garzon’s portfolio includes a range of other varietal wines, such as Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Marselan. These wines showcase the winery’s versatility and commitment to crafting high-quality expressions of different grape varieties.

The winemaking approach at Bodega Garzon combines traditional methods with modern techniques to ensure the best expression of each grape variety. The winery uses stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels for fermentation and ageing, allowing the wines to develop complexity while retaining their natural characteristics.

Bodega Garzon’s commitment to sustainability is also notable. They employ environmentally friendly practices, including organic and biodynamic farming methods, water conservation, and energy-efficient processes.

The wines of Bodega Garzon have received international recognition and acclaim for their exceptional quality. They are appreciated for their balance, elegance, and ability to showcase the unique characteristics of the Garzon terroir.

In summary, Garzon wine represents the premium wines produced by Bodega Garzon, a renowned winery in Uruguay. With a focus on sustainability, a diverse range of grape varieties, and a commitment to quality, Garzon wines offer a taste of the distinctive terroir and winemaking expertise of this esteemed Uruguayan producer.
