Garzón Tannat de Corte: Juicy Uruguayan Red

If you have not tried Uruguayan wine yet, this is a brilliant place to start. Garzón’s De Corte red shows off the richness of Tannat, Uruguay’s signature grape, softened with other varieties to make a juicy, fruity and very easy-drinking red.

Bodega Garzón is the winery that has put Uruguay firmly on the wine map. It sits in Maldonado, close to the Atlantic coast and not far from Punta del Este. The estate was planted after consultant winemaker Alberto Antonini visited the site in 2007 and saw its potential, and its hillside vineyards are split into around 1,150 small plots, each matched to the right grape. Garzón was ranked fifth in the World’s 50 Best Vineyards in 2025.

Tannat can be big and grippy, but this blend is all about softness and drinkability. The Atlantic breezes and granite soils keep the fruit fresh, and the wine is fermented in stainless steel and rested on its lees to keep the focus on pure, juicy fruit.

Expect plush red and dark berry fruit with a soft, rounded texture. It is medium-bodied and dry, with soft tannins and a smooth finish, showing the quality and finesse that Garzón is now known for.

Garzón De Corte Food Pairing Suggestion:

Uruguay is famous for its grilled meats, so this is a natural match for a barbecue. Try it with steak, chorizo, burgers or lamb chops straight off the grill. It also works well with empanadas or a mushroom and bean chilli.
