Situated approximately 35 kilometers away from Beirut, the Bekaa Valley serves as the nucleus of contemporary Lebanese winemaking. Nestled within the foothills of Mount Lebanon lies the time-honored mountain village of Mtein, adorned with five palaces erected by the Al Lamaayiin Emirs. The village’s landscape is full with hiking trails, castles and remnants of ancient structures. Amidst this backdrop stands Château Oumsiyat, a winery owned by a family, that is significantly shaping the global perception of Lebanese wines.
Established in 1950, Château Oumsiyat is currently managed by Joseph Bou Sleiman, a fourth-generation vintner, along with his wife. Having learnt from his father, Victor, Joseph acquired knowledge and skills which he has progressively employed, infusing his own methodologies into the winemaking process. Through modernizing the winery and ardently promoting his unique blends, Joseph remains devoted to upholding the longstanding customs that have shaped the winery’s legacy over time.
Oumsiyat Grande Reserve is a red made from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes, and is opulent and full-bodied, showcasing ripe red fruits embraced by enticing spicy fragrances. The palate unveils a savoury and earthy profile, with invitingly warm and expressive flavours that persist into a lengthy finish.
Food pairing suggestion: 7 spice grilled lamb chops with herb salad.
