Dandelion Enchanted Garden Riesling: Bone-Dry Eden Valley Riesling
Dandelion are one of Australia’s Riesling masters, and this is their beautiful dry Riesling from the Eden Valley. It is refreshing, delicate and full of crisp minerality, a superb dry Riesling for anyone who loves bright, zesty whites.
Dandelion Vineyards is run by winemaker Elena Brooks and her husband Zar in South Australia. This wine comes from the Enchanted Garden, a small, seven-acre vineyard in the Eden Valley tended by Sue and Stuart Woodman. The vines were planted in 1910, making them more than a century old.
Those old vines grow on sandstone bedrock with ironstone gravels, quartz and red rock fragments, which the winery credits for the wine’s minerality. The grapes are hand-picked, the free-run juice and pressings are fermented separately at cool temperatures, and the wine is bottled with minimal fining and filtration.
Expect citrus zest, lime, red apple, orange and lime blossom and fresh herbs, with a steely mineral edge. The palate is bone-dry and textural, with intense purity, firm acidity and impressive length.
Dandelion Riesling Food Pairing Suggestion:
A brilliant match for seafood. Try it with fresh oysters, grilled prawns, Thai fishcakes, Vietnamese salads or sushi. It is also lovely with goat’s cheese.
