Mullineux Signature Swartland Syrah brings together the darker, more serious side of the Swartland with the freshness and perfume that define the region’s best modern wines. This is an intense, concentrated Syrah built around blackberry, black cherry and dark plum, lifted by violets, cracked pepper and distinctive savoury notes of black olive and dried herbs. Despite its depth, it never becomes heavy or overly extracted. Whole-bunch fermentation introduces fragrance and energy, while fine tannins give the wine structure without toughness. Fruit is drawn from vineyards planted across several of the Swartland’s important soil types, creating a wine with layers of spice, texture and mineral detail. The supplied 2024 offer particularly highlights its brooding black fruit, subtle spiciness and impressive concentration, while still retaining the purity and vibrancy that have become hallmarks of Mullineux.

Did you know?
Mullineux uses Syrah to demonstrate just how dramatically soil can influence the same grape variety in the Swartland.
Their Single Terroir range separates Syrah grown on granite, schist and iron-rich soils, with each wine made using very similar techniques so that differences in the vineyard remain the main variable. Granite generally gives the most fragrant and finely structured wines; schist tends towards darker fruit, spice and denser tannins; while iron-rich soils create fuller, more structured expressions.
The Signature Syrah takes the opposite approach. Instead of isolating one soil type, it combines vineyards across the region, including shale, schist, decomposed granite and iron-rich soils, creating a more complete picture of Swartland Syrah.
