The Nyetimber estate marks three significant milestones in its rich history. Its origins date back to the Domesday Book of 1086, nearly a millennium ago, when the tranquil valley of Nitimbreha was first documented, likely referring to a newly constructed timber house or a small timber plantation. Nearly 902 years later, in 1988, the estate witnessed the planting of its first vines, including the revered trio of sparkling wine grapes: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, nestled in the shelter of the South Downs.
The third milestone took place in 2006 when Eric Heerema assumed ownership of Nyetimber, recognising its potential with its perfect soil and location. Eric enlisted the expertise of Head Winemaker Cherie Spriggs and Winemaker Brad Greatrix, who shared his vision of crafting the finest English sparkling wines. Since then, Nyetimber wines have garnered global recognition, earning prestigious international awards and triumphing in blind-tasting competitions, endorsed by esteemed wine connoisseurs worldwide.
The vineyards are alike the top sparkling wine vineyards globally. With greensand and chalk soils, the vines thrive in various locations throughout southern England. The climate fosters gradual grape ripening, enabling the winemakers to attain the perfect balance of ripeness, acidity, and the intricate finesse that defines our renowned wines.
Classic Cuvee is Nyetimber’s flagship wine – a timeless blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, and is a harmonious equilibrium between sophistication and depth.
2010 was the last vintage os this Cuvee before it went non-vintage, and this was only bottled in magnum.

“From a cool vintage that was the final vintage of the classic cuvée as a single-year wine. Very fine, expressive toasty nose is bready with some citrus character. The palate is very fine and toasty with citrus and cherry. It’s crystalline, delicate and fine, and one of the best English sparkling wines I’ve tasted.”
