On Saturday 19th September, we invite you to discover one of New Zealand’s most historic and highly regarded wine regions. While Marlborough may have made New Zealand famous, Gisborne has long been recognised by those in the know as one of the country’s premium wine-growing regions, producing wines of exceptional purity, concentration and character.
Hosted by owner and winemaker Kirsten Searle, this special evening will explore the unique conditions that make Gisborne such an exciting place to grow grapes. Blessed with abundant sunshine, ancient river terraces and cooling Pacific influences, the region is particularly celebrated for its expressive Chardonnay, aromatic whites and elegant, fruit-driven wines.
Matawhero has been at the forefront of Gisborne winemaking for decades, building a reputation for producing wines that truly reflect the region’s distinctive terroir. The estate also benefits from the expertise of legendary New Zealand winemaker Kim Crawford, whose experience and vision continue to help shape the winery’s acclaimed range.
During this guided virtual tasting, Kirsten will introduce a selection of Matawhero wines while sharing the history of the estate, the story of Gisborne, and why this remarkable region deserves to stand alongside the very best wine regions in New Zealand.

You will receive an invitation to Zoom video meeting by Saturday midday. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you have during the event, please use the chat for that.

- Live wine tasting with Phil the owner of Loki wine, Will, a cheese expert and the owner of Anderson & Hill, and our special guest.
