Paolo Scavino was established in 1921 by Lorenzo Scavino and his son Paolo in Castiglione Falletto, and holds a historical value in the region. Family history and passion have always revolved around farming.
The fourth generation of the Scavino family, led by Enrico and his daughters Enrica and Elisa, manages the estate. At the age of 10, Enrico began working full-time in the winery in 1951: a young winemaker who inherited his family’s love and passion for the land. His goal during his more than 60 years of experience has been to invest in significant Nebbiolo cru in order to highlight the distinctiveness of each terroir.
For the family, this Barolo holds a special place in the history and tradition of combining several crus of wine.
This Barolo is sourced from the top seven cru plots. Each of these minor but crucial terroirs is characterised by their variety of soils, exposure, and height. The Barolo offers harmony and complexity with a sense of the region’s general character, bringing these disparate elements together.
Each crus plot is kept apart and aged for 10 months in neutral French oak barrels before spending another 12 months in huge casks. Final blend as a result of a second selection of the best-performing plots from the vintage in the cellar. Prior to release, the product aged in stainless steel for about a year and in bottles for about 10 months.
Paolo Scavino Barolo Classico is an exceptional, supple red wine with intense red fruit and currants, a hint of coffee beans, and wood.
Food pairing suggestion: Brasato al Barolo – a classic rich beef stew from Piemonte.
