Seifried Pinot Gris is a wonderfully approachable New Zealand white, combining generous ripe fruit with floral lift and a fresh citrus edge. Soft and rounded without feeling heavy, it has just a touch of sweetness alongside bright acidity, making it an easy wine to enjoy on its own and an exceptionally versatile bottle at the table.

Seifried Estate has been growing grapes in Nelson since Hermann and Agnes Seifried planted their first vines in 1973. Still a family estate today, Seifried has become one of the region’s established names, with vineyards across Nelson’s varied clay, coastal and stony river soils.

For this Pinot Gris, the grapes are hand-picked and gently pressed before fermentation in stainless steel. This helps retain the variety’s freshness and naturally expressive fruit character, giving the finished wine plenty of flavour while keeping it bright and beautifully balanced.

The nose is full of ripe pear and delicate florals, with lemon zest bringing freshness and touches of lychee and stone fruit adding another layer. On the palate, juicy pear and nectarine take centre stage, followed by a gentle citrus tang. The texture is smooth and rounded, with lively acidity keeping everything refreshed and a subtle touch of sweetness carrying into a clean, lingering finish.

Try this with pork tenderloin in a honey and garlic sauce. The wine’s ripe pear and stone-fruit flavours work beautifully with the gentle sweetness of the glaze, while its fresh acidity keeps the dish feeling balanced.
