Spoke Awatere Sauvignon Blanc, Producer
Spoke is the collaborative project between two icons of New Zealand winemaking: Ben Glover and Liam Steevenson MW. Both bring decades of experience to this fresh take on Marlborough terroir, with a special focus on the lesser-known Awatere Valley. The name ‘Spoke’ reflects their connection through the wine world and the structure that holds everything together — just like spokes in a wheel.
Spoke Awatere Sauvignon Blanc, Terroir & Winemaking
The Awatere Valley is cooler and drier than the more famous Wairau, with windswept vineyards and mineral-rich soils. These conditions lead to lower yields and more concentrated fruit, with naturally high acidity. Grapes are picked early in the morning to preserve freshness, followed by a cool fermentation in stainless steel. This minimalist approach ensures that the site and varietal expression are left to shine without the interference of oak or heavy manipulation.
Spoke Awatere Sauvignon Blanc, Tasting Notes
This is a classic yet refined style of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Aromas of lime peel, gooseberry, and fresh-cut grass give way to passionfruit, kaffir lime, and crushed herbs on the palate. The wine is linear, bright, and mouth-puckeringly crisp, but with texture and minerality that elevate it above everyday examples. The finish is salty and clean, begging for another sip.

The label design mimics the gear mechanism of a bicycle — a nod to the name ‘Spoke’ and to the collaborative, precision-driven nature of the winemaking duo.
