discussing tearing down their 85-year-old Grenache vines. They stepped up to the plate and promised them four times what “the big boys” had paid them for the crop in exchange for keeping the vineyard in place. The offer was accepted, the vines remained in the ground, and Teusner Wines was born with the sole purpose of producing wines that the founders enjoyed drinking.
As soon as you walk inside the winery, you get the impression that everyone there at Teusner Wines enjoys what they do immensely and that their only goal is for customers to feel good when they reach for their wallets to purchase a bottle of Teusner wine. Kym and Mick’s legion of followers and the cheers of the commentators have grown as a result of their dedication to producing the types of wines they like drinking. Joshua is kept away from wood and is released early to highlight the type of juicy, spicy, flavorful wines you can achieve so well in the Barossa with local varietals from old vines. Typically a blend of approximately 2/3rds old vine Grenache, a chunk of Mataro, and a dash of Shiraz.
From the very first sip, you’ll enjoy a mouthful of savoury and gamey flavours with light and dark fresh ripe berry fruits notes, which build up to cured meats, as well as an elevated spice on the nose.
