Founded in 1858 by Edward Tyrrell, an English immigrant, Tyrrell’s Wines stands as one of Australia’s leading family-owned wine producers. Their vineyards stretch from their historic base in the Hunter Valley to the Lime- stone Coast and Heathcote, making them an integral part of the Australian wine industry.
The grapes for this wine are sourced from a small, exclusive selection of our finest Semillon vineyards in the Hunter Valley. These vineyards, where most of the vines are dry-farmed, boast an average age of 40 years, bringing depth and character to the fruit.
The grapes were harvested at nighttime to benefit from the cooler temperatures. After the gentle pressing, the juice underwent fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine then spent a brief period on yeast lees, enhancing its complexity and mouthfeel.
This textbook Hunter Valley Semillon is lively and filled with aromas of citrus fruits and delicate floral notes. On the palate, it offers a medium body, yet it’s intensely flavourful with excellent length and a refreshing, lively acidity.
The (not so well-kept) secret of the Semillon from the Hunter Valley is that they age beautifully in the bottle, taking on a waxy and velvety texture, and showcasing intricate flavours of toasty notes, honey, and roasted nuts.
Food pairing suggestion: Fish and chips.
