Maison Piron Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2026 is all about the sheer pleasure of freshly made Gamay. Produced for release just weeks after harvest, it captures Beaujolais at its most immediate: juicy, fragrant and full of energetic fruit. Expect raspberry, ripe cherry and blackberry alongside violet and a gentle peppery lift, with soft tannins and vibrant acidity keeping the palate wonderfully fresh. Maison Piron’s Nouveau tends to have a little more flesh and structure than the lightest examples of the style, giving plenty of succulent fruit without losing the playful character that makes Beaujolais Nouveau so appealing. It is a wine designed for sharing rather than analysing for hours – bright, generous and best served lightly chilled with charcuterie, cheese or a relaxed meal. Maison Piron describes its Beaujolais Villages Nouveau as supple and generous, with black-fruit character and a silky yet energetic palate.
Maison Piron Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2026, Producer
Maison Piron is based in the heart of Morgon and was created in 1987 by Dominique Piron, whose family history in Beaujolais stretches back through generations of winegrowers. Today the Maison vinifies the equivalent of around 50 hectares and is led by Julien Revillon, himself descended from seven generations of Beaujolais growers and part of the business since 2013.
The house works across a broad range of Beaujolais terroirs, from accessible regional wines through to individual crus including Morgon, Fleurie and Brouilly. Its stated ambition is to work in harmony with terroir and use the diversity of the region to create individual cuvées rather than imposing the same style on every wine.
That approach is especially useful when it comes to Nouveau. Although this is the youngest and most immediate wine of the year, Piron still treats fruit selection and vineyard origin seriously. The house describes grape selection as fundamental to its work and places considerable emphasis on the diversity of its individual parcels and soils.
Maison Piron Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2026, Terroir & Winemaking
Beaujolais Villages comes from the hillier northern part of the Beaujolais region, where Gamay generally achieves greater concentration and structure than in the broader Beaujolais appellation.
The Maison Piron presentation describes its regular Beaujolais Villages as a blend drawn from some of the best villages in northern Beaujolais. The vineyards contain small stones that absorb heat during the day and release it gradually at night, assisting ripening while retaining the freshness that is central to the Piron style.
Maison Piron works predominantly with traditional Beaujolais winemaking and aims to favour the expression of the soils from which the grapes originate. Across the range, concrete, stainless steel, larger wooden vessels and other maturation methods are selected according to the character of each cuvée.
For Nouveau, however, everything happens considerably faster. Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages Nouveau generally undergo very short semi-carbonic maceration, commonly around four to six days, to extract maximum colour, perfume and fresh fruit while keeping tannins soft. The wine is then rapidly completed and prepared for release on the third Thursday of November.
The final technical details for Maison Piron’s 2026 bottling have not yet been published, so I would avoid specifying exact maceration length, ABV or ageing vessel until the producer releases the 2026 technical sheet.
Maison Piron Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2026, Tasting Notes
As the 2026 wine has not yet been released, these notes describe the expected Maison Piron style rather than a finished tasting of the vintage.
Bright ruby-purple in colour, with an exuberant nose of raspberry, red cherry and blackberry, followed by violet and a subtle peppery lift. There should be plenty of ripe fruit, but the Villages classification gives the wine a little more depth than a very simple Nouveau.
The palate is expected to be juicy, supple and energetic, with raspberry and dark berry fruit supported by lively acidity and very gentle tannins. A soft, almost pulpy quality through the middle gives the wine generosity without making it feel heavy.
Maison Piron’s recent Nouveau releases have shown a slightly darker-fruited character than many examples. The 2025 Beaujolais Villages Nouveau was particularly noted for elderberry and blueberry aromas, generous fruit and a fleshy, energetic palate, while the house itself describes the cuvée as supple, generous and driven by black fruit.
Food Pairing Suggestions: Lyonnaise-Style Sausages with Warm Mustard Potato Salad.
