Greywacke are one of the most highly regarded producers in Marlbrough, and are owned by the founding winemaker of Cloudy Bay Kevin Judd. His wine showcases the unique terroir of Marlborough and the winemaking expertise.
Greywacke Pinot Noir is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, sourced from carefully selected vineyards in the Wairau and Southern Valleys.
This red is a virtual fruit compote with juicy strawberries, blackberries, and blackcurrants that has been delicately poached and flavoured with stem ginger, cloves, and Chinese five-spice. It has notes of fruit sweetness, flowers, and smoke, with strong but delicate tannins, a long finish, and an abundance of red and black fruit on the full-flavored palate, making it a mouthwatering wine.
The Pinot Noir grapes used in this wine are carefully handpicked and sorted to ensure the highest quality, and the wine is aged in French oak barrels (30% new) for 12 months, which imparts subtle notes of toasted oak and vanilla to the wine’s flavor profile.
It is a wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared for several years to come, developing even more complexity and depth over time.
Food pairing suggestion: Greywacke Pinot Noir is an excellent wine to pair with a wide range of dishes, but specifically with Char Siu pork belly.
