Gosset Grande Réserve Brut: Champagne with a place at the dinner table
Gosset Grande Réserve Brut is the signature cuvée of Champagne’s oldest wine house, bringing together generous fruit, creamy texture and beautifully crisp freshness. There is plenty to enjoy here beyond the bubbles: ripe yellow plum, lemon meringue and gentle toasted notes give it the depth to accompany a proper meal, while its lively citrus finish makes that first glass just as tempting on its own.
Founded by Pierre Gosset in Aÿ in 1584, the house originally produced still wines, many of them red, long before sparkling Champagne became the region’s calling card. That wine-first approach remains central to its character today. Grande Réserve captures the Gosset style particularly well, balancing richness and structure with a clear thread of freshness.
The blend combines Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier, sourced from villages including Aÿ, Bouzy, Ambonnay, Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Pinot Noir brings depth and structure, Chardonnay contributes citrus freshness and a mineral finish, and Meunier adds roundness. Gosset avoids malolactic fermentation to preserve the wine’s natural acidity, giving this generous Champagne an energetic backbone.
A minimum of four years ageing in the cellars develops its texture and complexity, followed by at least six months’ rest after disgorgement. The dosage is around 6–8g/L, keeping the style dry and balanced without taking away its inviting richness.
In the glass, it is luminous gold with fine, persistent bubbles. Lemon meringue and Mirabelle plum lead into ripe orchard fruit, delicate white flowers and hawthorn. As it warms a little, honeyed and gently toasted aromas emerge. The palate is broad and creamy, with a satisfying depth of fruit, bright citrus acidity and a long mineral finish. Give it a little time in the glass to enjoy the full range of flavours.
Gosset Grande Réserve Brut Food Pairing Suggestion:
Roast chicken with wild mushrooms, Comté cream and crispy potatoes. The Champagne’s generous texture complements the creamy sauce, while its citrus freshness cuts through the richness. Cheese gougères or slices of mature Comté also make excellent accompaniments to an aperitif.
