The 2019 Old Vine Chenin is vibrant, expressive and instantly recognisable as classic Ken Forrester: ripe fruit, gentle texture, subtle oak and that tell-tale streak of minerality. It’s more youthful and energetic than the 2008, offering both early drinkability and the structure to age gracefully.
Ken Forrester, The Producer
Ken’s Old Vine range is the backbone of his philosophy: wines built on the belief that Chenin Blanc deserves the same reverence as the world’s noble varieties. His 2019 release came from a decade of renewed global attention for South African Chenin, much of it thanks to pioneers like Ken. He continues to champion low yields, dry-farming, and careful barrel maturation, making Old Vine Chenin one of the most dependable benchmarks in the Cape.
About the 2019 Vintage
Expect aromas of quince, pear, baked apple and honeysuckle intertwined with almond, vanilla pod and a subtle smoky note from oak ageing. The palate is beautifully balanced, with creamy lees texture lifted by bright acidity. There’s a mineral spine that carries the wine into a long, refreshing finish. Still youthful, still evolving, and still deeply expressive of Stellenbosch terroir.
Food Pairing Suggestion
Match with roast pork belly, crab linguine or cheese soufflé.
