Blockhead Chenin Blanc: Old-Vine Chenin from the Cape
Blockhead Chenin Blanc is a great-value South African white that shows everything we love about Chenin Blanc: lively acidity, juicy fruit and a crisp, dry finish, with a lovely touch of creaminess. It is a brilliant, versatile wine for everyday drinking.
Blockhead is part of Moreno Wines’ “Made by Moreno” range, made with their winemaking partners in South Africa’s Coastal Region. South Africa is the world’s leading home of Chenin Blanc, and the Cape’s sunny days and cool ocean breezes give fresh, characterful wines.
What makes this bottle stand out is the old vines: most are over 50 years old, which gives the wine extra depth and concentration. A small portion, around 10%, is fermented with wild yeasts in old oak barrels, and the whole wine spends two months on its lees for added texture.
Expect baked apple and citrus, with a slightly creamy texture. The palate is dry and fresh, with juicy fruit, lively acidity and a clean, crisp finish.
Blockhead Chenin Blanc Food Pairing Suggestion:
Try it with roast chicken, pork belly, fish tacos, a chicken Caesar salad or a mild Thai curry. It is also great with goat’s cheese salads.
