Altano Douro White: Mountain-fresh Portuguese white from the Douro
Altano Douro White, also known as Altano Douro Branco, is a bright, fresh and wonderfully drinkable white wine from Symington Family Estates. The Symington family may be best known for Port, but their Douro table wines are a brilliant reminder that this famous valley can produce far more than rich, fortified reds.
The Altano range comes from the Douro, where steep vineyards, high-altitude sites and native Portuguese grape varieties give the wines their character. Symington Family Estates look after 26 quintas across the region, giving them impressive control over vineyard selection. They also manage the largest organic vineyard in the Douro, covering 112 hectares.
This white is made from a vibrant blend of Malvasia Fina, Viosinho, Rabigato and Moscatel Galego. It is unoaked, fresh and aromatic, with Moscatel adding a lovely floral lift. Expect citrus, green apple, wildflower and a hint of tropical fruit, all balanced by crisp acidity and a clean mineral edge. It is dry, refreshing and nicely rounded, with enough texture to make it satisfying, but plenty of zip to keep it lively.
Altano Douro White Food Pairing Suggestion:
Serve well chilled with grilled prawns, lemony seafood, white fish, fresh salads or simple chicken dishes. It is also a lovely glass on its own when you want something bright, clean and easy to enjoy.

A great little discovery, and really good value. Light, dry and fresh with plenty of acidity, lovely fragrant pear fruit and a nice mineral background. A bit like a Sauvignon that isn’t trying too hard. Very easy drinking and now a firm favourite.
