The first vines were planted by a Bogle family in 1968 in rural California. During the first few decades of business, the Bogle family constructed and expanded their facilities, but as the brand succeeded and evolved, they started to outsource winemaking to custom crush businesses in locations like Monterey and Sonoma counties. They made the decision to construct a new winery in the late 2000s to consolidate all of the winemaking in one location since they were well on their way to producing the 2.5 million cases they do now.
This wine expresses the classic spice characteristics of Californian Zinfandel. Black pepper, spicy nutmeg, and juniper on the nose arouse the senses. The palate is tantalised by the flavours of cranberries and raspberries, which are followed by notes of red fruits, marionberry pie, and baking spices. This Old Vine Zinfandel has been matured in American oak barrels for two years, giving it a strong, yet exquisite mouthfeel and a long, refined finish.
Food pairing suggestion: Sweet and smoky pulled pork burgers.
