Dandelion Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon: A Loki Best Seller

Dandelion Vineyards have been a favourite of ours since we opened, and their Cabernet has been one of our best sellers year after year. It has big, elegant fruit, a lovely eucalyptus core and silky tannins. Once you try it, you will see why customers keep coming back for it.

Dandelion Vineyards is run by winemaker Elena Brooks and her husband Zar in South Australia. Elena grew up in Bulgaria, where her mother worked for a local winery, and she made her first wine at just 16. After studying and working abroad, she settled in McLaren Vale and founded Dandelion.

This Cabernet, known as Pride of the Fleurieu, comes from the Stranger’s Reach vineyard overlooking the Finniss River wetlands. Maritime air from the Southern Ocean and nearby Lake Alexandrina keeps the grapes cool. The bunches are hand-picked, fermented in open-top fermenters, basket-pressed and aged for 18 months, mostly in older French oak. The wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined.

Expect blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and cassis, with hints of menthol, eucalyptus and fennel. The palate is rich and intensely flavoured, with round, powdery tannins softened by smooth, full fruit and a long finish.

Dandelion Cabernet Sauvignon Food Pairing Suggestion:

Pair it with roast lamb with rosemary, a juicy ribeye, beef Wellington or a mushroom and lentil pie. It is also great with hard cheeses like aged Gouda.
