De Loach are one of the classic producers in California, Founded by the De Loach family it is now owned by famous Burgundian wine producers Jean Claude Boisset. They have converted the estate to Biodynamic and Organic viticulture. They see themselves as land stewards, with a serious obligation to leave the next generation a clean environment and rejuvenated, healthy soil. The Native American saying, “We do not inherit this land from our forefathers; we borrow it from our offspring,” is something they live by.
In accordance with biodynamic principles, DeLoach pays equal attention to the community and other parts of the property as they do to their vines. With hens, a thriving beehive, and a varied vegetable and herb garden that includes medicinal plants they use in the compost preparations such as yarrow, chamomile, and dandelion, the vinegrowers maintain and promote biodiversity on the winery estate.
The quality of wines has improved vastly since being taken over in 2003, with a style now being more in tune with Burgundy than California.
It is a lively Chardonnay which is great for everyday drinking: it is crisp, tasty, and fresh on the palate, with soft fresh nectarine, blossom and pear notes. This wine is delicate with a lengthy finish, nicely balanced with a lively acidity and mineral overtones.
Food pairing suggestion: Baked halibut with herb butter.
