The Diamantakis family’s love and enthusiasm for fine wine, their long history of viticulture, and the 70 acres of privately held property in the vicinity served as the impetus for starting a modest winery in Crete. Greek, regional, and foreign grape varietals are grown, and the family’s goal is to produce high-quality wines that perfectly complement the region’s distinctive microclimate. They have great faith in the capability and promise of the regional varietals to produce excellent wines.
The winery was launched in 2007 by the Diamantakis family: Ioannis, Michalis, and Zacharias, who are still in charge of various parts of the business. Everything is done by hand, and the family continues the tradition of consideration for the environment and the growth and demands of the grape, taking great care and having respect towards the cultivation process.
One of the most popular native red grapes grown in Cretan vineyards is Liatiko. It has a complicated character that makes growing it and making wine from it challenging. Through the use of the utmost care, Petali Liatiko is able to unveil the unending riches of the Cretan vineyard.
This red is full of surprising combinations of flavours: from raisins and caramel, to red and black fruits, with notes of fig, followed by spices like cinnamon and clove. It’s a delicious medium-bodied wine with balanced acidity and tannins; warm and easy to drink.
Food pairing suggestion: Beef kofta kebabs with Tzatziki sauce.
