2020 vintage: The 2020 harvest was one of the earliest on record in Burgundy. Picking began considerably sooner for many growers than during the terrible heatwave of 2003. But, after five weeks of tasting in the region’s cellars, it is clear that these wines bore no relation to the 2003s.
This vintage was warm and dry, picked in the late August sun. Amazingly, both colours have a remarkable freshness and clarity. And, arguably, the quality hierarchy is more accurately depicted than in ’19. The vitality in these wines defied our expectations in cellar after cellar.
