A magnificent dry Riesling with great depth of flavour, yet extremely elegant, showcasing the distinctive, finely spiced aroma of the Höllenpfad.
GG stands for “Grosses Gewächs,” which is the highest quality designation for dry wines in Germany. It signifies that the wine comes from a top vineyard site and is produced in accordance with strict quality standards set by the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter), an association of elite German wineries.
THE VINEYARD
The central part of Donnhoff’s premier Höllenpfad vineyard is home to the jewel of this outstanding site, where the oldest vines grow. Due to the exceptional quality of the wines produced here, these parcels have been officially registered under the historic name “Höllenpfad im Mühlenberg” and classified as a Grand Cru by the VDP.
This Riesling is rich and intense while maintaining an elegant character, impressing with immense concentration and substance. Its acidity is always saline and ripe, exceptionally refined, and perfectly integrated with the body and fruit. A Grand Cru of remarkable complexity, unique to the Höllenpfad.
Following meticulous, selective hand-picking in multiple passes, the grapes are gently pressed and matured in large oak casks. A maturation period of at least six months on the full lees, followed by a further two months on the fine lees, significantly contributes to the wine’s longevity.
