Hugel Gewurztraminer Classic: The Perfect Introduction to Gewurztraminer
Rich, aromatic and full-bodied, Hugel’s Gewurztraminer Classic is the perfect introduction to this unique grape. Think lychee, rose water and Turkish delight in a glass, with a lovely spicy edge.
Famille Hugel is one of the great names of Alsace, based in the picture-postcard village of Riquewihr. The Classic range showcases the family’s pure, dry house style, made from grapes grown on clay-limestone soils in Riquewihr and its neighbouring villages, from vines with an average age of around 30 years.
Gewurztraminer is one of the most aromatic grapes in the world, and Alsace is its spiritual home. Hugel ferment the wine in temperature-controlled vats and let it settle naturally over winter before bottling in spring, keeping all that wonderful perfume intact.
Expect rose petals, lychee and Turkish delight, with hints of peach and exotic spice. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with a generous, warm texture and a drier finish than you might expect.
Hugel Gewurztraminer Food Pairing Suggestion:
Brilliant with lightly spiced pan-Asian food, such as Thai curries, Chinese duck or Vietnamese dishes. It is also great with smoked salmon, Munster cheese and other strong washed-rind cheeses.
