Tinpot Hut Sauvignon Blanc is a popular white wine produced in New Zealand’s Marlborough region by Tinpot Hut Wines. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes used in this wine are grown at several vineyards in the Marlborough region: Lower Wairau, Rapaura and Omaka, which have different soil types and microclimates that contribute to the complexity of the wine.

This wine has won pretty much every award including Decanter Magazines Sauvignon Blanc of the Year.  It is a textbook perfect New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, with bright passionfruit and gooseberry flavours. The wine is intensely aromatic whilst showing the classic crisp and dry Sauvignon Blanc traits.

Tinpot Hut Sauvignon Blanc has a pale straw colour and aromas of citrus fruits, such as grapefruit and lemon, as well as hints of tropical fruits, such as passionfruit and guava. On the palate, the wine is crisp and refreshing, with flavours of citrus and tropical fruits, as well as a hint of herbaceousness. The wine has a long, zesty finish with a balanced acidity.

Food pairing suggestion: crab cakes with aioli or goat cheese.

I had been drinking the same sauv blanc for years but I recently went for a drink at Loki’s wine bar in Edgbaston and was recommended to try Tinpot Hut Sauv Blanc. Oh my god what a treat it was! I’ve since ordered a few bottles to stock up at home. Slightly more expensive than my usual but so worth it. I’m by no means a connoisseur and even I could tell the difference in quality.
