Chardonnay Archive Release is from the legendary Kevin Judd, founding winemaker of Cloudy Bay, whose wines became somewhat of a phenomenon.
With the common goal of delivering flavour concentration and a harmonic balance of texture and acidity, each variety is grown and vinified employing methods intended to achieve very unique wine styles. To produce wines with personality and character, minimal intervention winemaking is used, striving for delicate, ripe, delicious-drinking styles.
Despite early harvest due to cyclonic conditions, 2014 produced some excellent wines. This Chardonnay offers more savoury fragrances of almond nougat, vanilla beans, and marzipan combined with the seductive flavours of cumquats, peaches, and yellow grapefruit, creating an extravagant mixture with a charred smokiness. This wine’s low-intervention genesis is evident in the savouriness that continues over to a superbly dry, rich, and robust palate with great structure and concentration.
