Jermann Pinot Grigio, The Producer
Silvio Jermann stands as one of the most emblematic figures in winemaking from Friuli Venezia Giulia. His wines may spark discussion – admired by many, critiqued by some – but there’s no denying their global reach and influence. Despite still being under fifty, Silvio brings decades of experience, both in Italy and abroad, to every bottle. His success today is the result of relentless dedication and passion over the years. The Jermann estate and wineries are immaculately maintained, reflecting an eye for detail that carries through to the wines themselves – vibrant, refined, and impressively long on the palate, each a true reflection of their maker.
Jermann Pinot Grigio, Winemaking & Style
Jermann’s Pinot Grigio is produced from carefully selected grapes, fermented as a white wine to preserve its freshness and purity.
The soils originate from an Eocene geological uplift, this area experienced the formation of an extensive zone of colluvial deposits. These materials, along with marl and sandstone from the “flyschoid” era, contributed to the development of a rugged, rocky subsoil that shapes the distinctive character of the terroir.
The wine undergoes ageing on its lees in stainless steel tanks for approximately six months, followed by additional maturation in the bottle for a few more months before release.
Jermann Pinot Grigio, Tasting Notes
In the glass, Jermann Pinot Grigio displays an intense straw-yellow colour with subtle hints of antique rose. The nose is full and fruity, offering aromas of ripe pear, green apple, citrus zest, and delicate floral notes. On the palate, it is dry, velvety, and well-structured, with flavours of stone fruits, citrus peel, and a touch of almond and spice, culminating in a persistent and harmonious finish.
